Abstract

This paper addresses the need to incorporate feminist theory in initial teacher training in the face of media discourses of hatred against women and the influence of post-feminism and post-machismo. Thus, we propose the use of media culture, specifically the video clip Formation by Beyoncé, as a literacy tool, with the objective of testing whether the video clip facilitates the teaching of feminist theory. To this end, a research methodology based on the design of an artefact was applied in the master's degree in teaching (N=43). The results showed that the use of audiovisual culture improves the acquisition of feminist critical literacy skills. In conclusion, we highlight how teachers are key to generating a citizenry committed to gender equality.
