Abstract

The aim of this article is to understand gender transitions and resistances in the opinion section of the Portuguese newspapers Expresso and Público. It was specifically designed to understand the thematic differences in articles by male and female columnists, and the perceptions of female columnists about editorial decisions. A mixed method was used, with content analysis of published articles and semi-structured interviews with women columnists. It was found that this space is still predominantly male, that feminist and gender equality issues are invisible, and that, although transitions towards the inclusion of women columnists are recognized, they continue to perceive gender resistance.
