Abstract

Feminist movements have promoted the inclusion of women in traditionally male-dominated fields. Sport not only confronts patriarchal resistance but also reflects its symbolic rigidity. Adopting an essayistic methodology, based on the theories of masculinities and feminisms, this paper analyzes sport as a patriarchal device that discriminates against women, reproducing power structures and constructing hegemonic masculinity. From a feminist perspective, it seeks to recognize sexual difference, arguing that the oppression of women lies in denying their autonomy and in the unequal comparison with men. Finally, it proposes redefining sports spaces from a female perspective.
