The Punitive Dimension in the Field of Opposition to the Voluntary Interruption of Pregnancy (Argentina, 2018)
The purpose of this paper is to analyze the field of opposition to the voluntary interruption of pregnancy in the meetings held within the Commissions of the Chambers of Deputies and Senators of Argentina (2018). Different civil society actors were called to participate in these meetings and to present their positions regarding the law reform. Based on a qualitative approach, a corpus of 410 statements is analyzed. This paper presents the axis criminalization/legalization of abortion as one of the main discourses of the opposition field. The analysis reveals the (re)inscription of abortion in the punitive paradigm from different strategies used to substantiate the rejection of the law reform project.
